Do you have to pay to get good online dating services?

In this day and age, everyone seems to expect a lot of things for free. This is especially true online, where people are accustomed to getting things like the news, videos, and other information without having to pay anything. This may cause you to think that you can get online dating services for free as well. While this is true to some extent, I do believe that paying for a good service like Match.com is a much better option. In this article, I will explain why I feel this way.

Let's start by taking a look at some of the free online dating services. The two that stand out the most (mainly due to their size) are Okcupid and Plenty of Fish. Both services are pretty basic but on a positive note, they offer all the regular features you can expect from some more expensive sites. So why not just use these free sites? Many people do, and that is certainly one way to approach online dating. However, having used these sites myself, I can confirm that using free sites can be a bit frustrating.

Because these sites are free, it attracts many people who are just testing the waters or not really that committed to online dating. In addition, I find that a great many profiles are old and have been inactive for months, if not years. If you are not aware of this, you could end up spending a lot of time messaging people who are not even available or online any more. I do not know if this is still the case, but I've also read in the past that these types of sites, because they are free, attract scammers from foreign countries who will try to get to know you first then ask for you to send them money. My general rule of thumb is not to engage in conversations with people from foreign countries. There is nothing wrong with foreigners, but you have to admit, someone living in a foreign country using a U.S. dating site does seem a bit fishy at best.

So what about paid dating services like Match.com? While they are not perfect, I have generally had a much better time using sites like Match.com. And when you use coupons or Match.com free trial offers, they end up not costing that much when everything is said and done. For the best experience, I therefore recommend using paid dating services. I prefer Match.com, but everyone seems to have their own preferences and you should shop around to find the best dating site that suits your wants and needs. Be sure to check out our Eharmony and Chemistry.com article as well, if you want to try out a different, more compatibility based dating service.
